HTC introduces connected car platform
HTC unveiled Customer-Link, a new platform for the connected car developed with Volkswagen Taiwan. The Customer-Link Bridge is a vehicle performance measurement system designed by HTC. It comes with the Customer-Link smartphone app that connects to Volkswagen's cloud-based customer relationship management services. 

The Customer-Link Bridge will read car performance and driving information in real time, including distance travelled, engine RPM, engine oil and engine coolant temperature, and distance to empty. It also raises the alarm if there are any operating problems while driving, and shows the nearest service centres. Customer-Link works with both Android and iOS mobile devices. 

With MirrorLink, Customer-Link can mirror an app on the smartphone to the touch screen of the entertainment system in the car, which allows the car owner to control the app with the touch screen, providing a safer means of use while driving. Customer-Link also provides traffic information, such as current freeway traffic, electronic toll collection, gas station location and real-time parking info. 

Customer-Link works on all Volkswagen vehicles sold in Taiwan. The Customer-Link Bridge will be pre-installed in all new cars sold from May 2016.

HTC to set up VR product experience centre in Taipei

HTC teamed up with Syntrend, an IT mall in Taipei, to establish an experience centre that will enable consumers to test its HTC Vive VR headset, writes online publication Digi Times citing HTC representatives.  HTC and its partners are working on marketing and preparing its products, HTC North Asia president Jack Tong said. HTC Vive will be available for pre-order from February 2016 and is scheduled to be released in April 2016, soon after the release of its rival Oculus' Rift VR headset.

HTC confirms drop in Q3 results, no guidance for Q4

HTC has refrained from giving an outlook for its fourth-quarter results. In a presentation on the Q3 figures, the smartphone maker did not provide its usual guidance for the current quarter. Jonah Becker has left HTC to join Fitbit as VP of industrial design, Re/code reports. In the newly created position he will report directly to the CEO. HTC chair Wang to take over as CEO

HTC Chairwoman Cher Wang is replacing Peter Chou as CEO. Chou, who also held the title of president, will take a new role as head of the HTC Future Development Lab, HTC said.
