Huawei claims lead over Samsung in 5G smartphone shipments

Huawei announced that it shipped 6.9 million 5G smartphones as of December 2019. That puts the company just ahead of Samsung, which had reported 6.7 million 5G phones shipped last year. 

Huawei released eight 5G models in 2019: the Mate 30, Mate 30 Pro, Mate 20 X, Mate 30 Porsche Design, Nova 6 5G, Mate X, Honor V30 Pro and Honor V30. All the phones support both standalone and non-standalone 5G networks.

Samsung takes early lead in 5G smartphone market, LG second

Samsung has taken the lead in the 5G smartphone market already, accounting for three-quarters of worldwide shipments in the third quarter, according to IHS Markit. The company shipped an estimated 3.2 million 5G smartphones in the period, equal to 74 percent of the total 4.3 million units shipped worldwide.

Huawei has unveiled its third generation of 5G equipment at the Mobile Broadband Forum in Zurich. The massive MIMO radios target new deployments in mid-range FDD spectrum, promising the industry's highest power and bandwidth capabilities. Huawei said the new products are expected to grow its total 5G antenna shipments to 600,000 units by year-end, from over 400,000 to date.

Huawei maintains sales growth in Q3, smartphone shipments up 26% year to date

Huawei maintained sales growth in the third quarter, despite the US ban on doing business with the company. The company reported revenues for the first nine months of 2019 up 24.4 percent year-on-year to CNY 610.8 billion, a small improvement from the 23.2 percent growth in the first half of 2019.
