Huawei's net profit jumps 28%, ships 153 mln smartphones in 2017
Huawei posted total annual revenue of CNY 603.6 billion (USD 92.5 billion) for 2017, which represents an increase of 15.7 percent from 2016. Net profit amounted to CNY 47.5 billion, up 28.1 percent year-on-year. 

In 2017, Huawei's Carrier business group generated CNY 297.8 billion in revenue, an increase of 2.5 percent year-on-year. Huawei also reports that its enterprise business generated CNY 54.9 billion in annual revenue in 2017, up 35.1 percent compared with 2016. At the Consumer division, Huawei shipped a total of 153 million smartphones (including Honor) in 2017, up from 140 million the previous year, and reported CNY 237.2 billion in annual revenue, up 31.9 percent year-on-year.

Huawei said that its annual investment in research and development reached CNY 89.7 billion in 2017, up 17.4 percent compared with 2016. The company's total R&D spend over the past decade exceeded CNY 394 billion.

Honor reports international sales up 150% in H1

Huawei has reported continued strong sales at its Honor brand. Outside its home market China, Honor's sales volume increased 150 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2018. The growth was led by the popular Honor 10 smartphone, which has already sold over 3 million units since its launch in April.

Huawei invested a total of USD 12 billion in research and development in 2017 and has pledged to continue invested "between USD 10 billion and USD 20 billion" every year from 2018, reports Light Reading, citing the company's president of the carrier business group, Ryan Ding. Key focus areas include 5G, IoT, video and cloud, with the company looking to launch over 20 products at the forthcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, many of them incorporating analytics and AI capabilities.

Huawei smartphone growth slows in 2017, ships 153 million devices

Huawei announced that it shipped 153 million smartphones worldwide in 2017, up from 140 million in 2016 and 100 million in 2015. At the same time its revenues rose 15 percent to CNY 600 billion, the lowest sales growth in four years, CEO Ken Hu said in a memo to staff posted on WeChat. Growth in smartphone shipments slowed to just over 9 percent, from 40 percent in 2016.
