Iliad Italia seeks EUR 71 mln in damages from TIM for anti-competitive conduct
The Iliad Italia subsidiary of France’s Iliad has brought legal action before a Milan court against Telecom Italia (TIM) and its Kena Mobile brand for anti-competitive conduct, reports website MVNO News, citing documents released by TIM relating to its Q1 results. The former incumbent confirmed that Iliad is seeking damages of at least EUR 71.4 million for allegedly hindering the new operator’s entry and consolidation in the Italian mobile market. TIM said it will be appearing in court to “fully contest” Iliad’s allegations.

Full details of the anti-competitive conduct adopted by TIM and Kena haven’t yet been revealed but the report suggests the many low-cost offers reserved exclusively for Iliad customers or ‘winback’ offers for former customers could be the reason for Iliad’s legal action.

The news comes after Open Fiber confirmed earlier this year that it would be taking legal action against TIM following the EUR 116 million fine imposed by Italy’s competition watchdog for abusing its dominant position in the broadband market.

The Open Fiber venture of Italian utility giant Enel and state lender CDP is seeking EUR 1.5 billion in damages from Telecom Italia (TIM) for the latter's alleged abuse of its dominant position in the broadband market, according to two unnamed sources cited by Reuters. The damages claim was reportedly brought after Italy's competition watchdog AGCM fined TIM EUR 116 million in March for carrying out a "premeditated anti-competition strategy" to preserve its status in the ultra-fast broadband sector.

Iliad brings SIM card machines in 7 more Unieuro stores

Iliad has further expanded its Italian distribution network by installing automatic SIM card dispensing machines in 7 more stores in the north of the country, reports Mondo Mobile Web. Iliad Italia up to 3,632 active antennas

Iliad Italia reached a total of 3,632 active mobile stations throughout the country, having activated a further 340 sites this month alone, reports website Universo Free. The figure is more than the 338 sites activated in May alone, compared to an average of around 250 in the first 3 months of the year and just over 200 in April. Iliad's year-end target remains 5,000 active sites, down from 6,000 due to the Covid-19 health emergency.

Iliad raises EUR 650 mln with bond issue

Iliad has announced the completion of a EUR 650 million bond issue, saying that the money raised will be used to extend the maturity of its debt, and fund the ongoing roll-out of fibre and mobile infrastructure across France and Italy. The bonds have a six-year term (maturing on 17 June 2026), and an annual coupon of 2.375 percent.

TIM's Kena Mobile launches new 100GB data offer for EUR 12 a month

Telecom Italia's Kena Mobile low-cost brand has launched a new data bundle called Kena Internet with 100GB of data on TIM's 4G network plus 10 minutes of calls and 10 SMS for EUR 11.99 a month. Iliad Italia adds 525,000 clients in Q1 to reach 5.8 mln

France's Iliad reported that its Iliad Italia subsidiary added 525,000 customers in the first quarter of 2020, reaching a total of 5.81 million at the end of March, up from 1.97 million a year earlier.
