Counting M2M lines, TIM remained market leader with a 29.8 percent share, down 0.9 percent on year, followed by Vodafone and Wind Tre, with 28.8 percent and 27.6 percent of the market, down 0.4 percent and 1.7 percent respectively, Iliad with 5.1 percent and PosteMobile with 4.1 percent.
The mobile market as a whole remained relatively stable, reaching a total of 103.7 million at the end of December compared to 103.6 million a year earlier, thanks mainly to a 3.2 million rise in M2M lines, which offset a 3.1 million fall in traditional human SIMs. Around 70 percent of human SIMs used data traffic, up from 50 percent in 2015, with the average data consumed surging 52 percent year on year to an average of 6.6 GB a month in the fourth quarter.
