India’s Union Cabinet has approved the next mega spectrum auction plan. The government hopes to raise nearly INR 5.66 trillion from this auction. “Yes, spectrum auction proposal has been cleared”, an official source told The Indian Express. According to the same source, the main document of auction, notice inviting application, is expected to be issued by 1 July, followed by a pre-bid conference on 6 July. The bidding process is scheduled for launch on 1 September. These dates have not been officially confirmed yet.
The government expects to raise at least INR 640 billion from the auction of about 2300 MHz of spectrum and INR 989 billion from various levies and services in the telecom sector.
