India delays spectrum auction to February
India's Department of Telecom announced a delay to the planned spectrum auction in January. Potential bidders now have until 15 January to apply, compared to an earlier deadline of 04 January. The DoT expects to announce qualified bidders on 25 January and confirm the final participants on 29 January. A mock auction will be held on 30-31 January, and the actual auction will begin on 03 February. The auction was previously expected to start on 23 January. The auction will cover frequencies in the 900 and 1800 MHz bands. However, operators have been threatening to not participate if the government does not provide more clarity in advance on its plans for spectrum fees.

Eight telecommunications providers have applied to participate in India's spectrum auction planned for 3 February. Indian operators allowed to switch technologies

India's Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will allow operators to switch between technologies on spectrum that is set to be auctioned in February. Under new rules, winning bidders are required to provide details of the technology they propose to use within one month for technologies other than GSM, CDMA, or LTE. Videocon to bid for additional spectrum

Videocon Telecom will bid for an additional 2 MHz of spectrum in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab telecom circles at the upcoming auction, NDTV reports. At present, it has 4.4 MHz of spectrum in Punjab and 5 MHz of spectrum in Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh telecom circles, but it is already nearing peak capacity in some areas.
