Indosat Ooredoo launches 5G services in Indonesia

Indonesian operator Indosat Ooredoo has launched its first commercial 5G services in the city of Solo. Indosat Ooredoo's 5G services are available for residential and business customers in Solo. Following the initial 5G launch in Solo, Indosat Ooredoo plans to extend its 5G services to other major cities in Indonesia, including Jakarta, Surabaya, and Makassar.

Indosat Ooredoo also reports that the launch of its commercial 5G services is part of a new partnership with Surakarta (“Solo”) Municipality to support its economic recovery. The partnership also includes collaboration in micro and small-medium-sized enterprise empowerment, digital talent education, and smart city development.

For micro and small-medium-sized enterprises in Solo, Indosat Ooredoo has started selling Rasa Solo Hampers on the myIM3 app, and will train 10,000 of the city’s micro-businesses on how to go digital. In addition, Indosat Ooredoo is providing UCan, a micro-lending offer for MSMEs to help their businesses development.

In digital talent education, Indosat Ooredoo will provide content creator training and coaching to 2,000 of Solo’s youth. The company is also providing AR training for 500 young developers in Solo.

Indosat Ooredoo will also establish a smart information hub at Solo’s City Hall that connects the city’s command center to more than 2,700 RT community residents to provide real-time information across the entire city.

Telkomsel's 5G services in Indonesia

Market competitor Telkomsel also launched its 5G service on the local market this month. Telkomsel’s 5G service uses the 2,300 MHz spectrum. The service is currently available in six residential locations in Greater Jakarta as well as other cities such as Solo, Medan, Balikpapan, Denpasar, Batam, Surabaya, Makassar and Bandung, and will be gradually expanded across the country.
