
Pakistan mobile operator Jazz, in partnership with KaiOS Technologies, has launched the Jazz Digit 4G – ‘Pakistan ka smartphone’ (Pakistan’s smartphone). The device is available for a down payment of PKR 1,800 (approximately USD 11), with a 1-year subscription to a tariff plan of PKR 300 per month. Subscribers will receive 1,000 minutes for voice calls, 1000MB for data traffic, unlimited SMS and voice calls to doctors along with unlimited Facebook and WhatsApp access for the first three months.
The offer mainly targets the low-income customer segment, as more than 55 percent of Pakistan’s 165 million subscribers are currently using feature phones and 2G devices. Internet penetration currently stands at 35 percent of the population in Pakistan. Jazz also reports it currently has around 60 million subscribers across Pakistan.
The Jazz Digit 4G smartphone features a Jazz Super 4G SIM that enables access to WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Voice, and Jazz TV as part of the 200 and more apps they can access at the KaiStore. The device runs on the KaiOS mobile operating system. The phone also comes with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Hotspot capabilities.
