Jazz launches Digit 4G smartphone with KaiOS for PKR 1,800

Pakistan mobile operator Jazz, in partnership with KaiOS Technologies, has launched the Jazz Digit 4G – ‘Pakistan ka smartphone’ (Pakistan’s smartphone). The device is available for a down payment of PKR 1,800 (approximately USD 11), with a 1-year subscription to a tariff plan of PKR 300 per month. Subscribers will receive 1,000 minutes for voice calls, 1000MB for data traffic, unlimited SMS and voice calls to doctors along with unlimited Facebook and WhatsApp access for the first three months.  

The offer mainly targets the low-income customer segment, as more than 55 percent of Pakistan’s 165 million subscribers are currently using feature phones and 2G devices. Internet penetration currently stands at 35 percent of the population in Pakistan. Jazz also reports it currently has around 60 million subscribers across Pakistan.

The Jazz Digit 4G smartphone features a Jazz Super 4G SIM that enables access to WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Voice, and Jazz TV as part of the 200 and more apps they can access at the KaiStore. The device runs on the KaiOS mobile operating system. The phone also comes with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Hotspot capabilities.

Jazz offers highest 4G speeds in Pakistan - PTA

Pakistani operator Jazz offered an average data throughput of 23.71 Mbps on its 4G network in the third quarter of 2019, according to a report from the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA). This represents an increase from 20 Mbps in the previous quarter. Jazz was followed by Zong, with an average data throughput of 15.37 Mbps on its 4G network in the third quarter of 2019, and Telenor with a an average data throughput of 15.37 Mbps.

Jazz launches loyalty programme for Jazz TV subscribers

Pakistani operator Jazz has introduced a loyalty programme for its Jazz TV platform users. Customers can now redeem earned coins and get mobile balance in return. Jazz has also added new features to its TV platform. The additions include a Floating Player, a video player bar, and status modes.

Jazz, Zong granted clearance to start non-commercial 5G trials in Pakistan

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has granted 6-months permission to mobile operators Jazz and Zong to trial 5G service in a limited environment. The permission is limited to testing only on a non-commercial basis, the PTA said. PTA earlier issued a framework for 5G testing in June 2019 to support trials of 5G services in Pakistan.

Jazz launches free access to 250 games on Jazz World platform

Pakistani mobile operator Jazz, via its Jazz World digital platform, has launched a gaming feature to provide its customers with access to over 250 games. The new gaming feature will allow users to play games from Strategy, Arcade, Sports, Classics and other categories. As a service launch promotion, Jazz users can play all games free of charge.

Jazz completes 5G trial in Pakistan

Pakistani mobile operator Jazz reports it has successfully tested out 5G services on the local market. Jazz carried out these trials at its Digital Headquarters in Islamabad. The operator reached average download speeds of 1452 Mbps and upload speeds of 68 Mbps with HD voice and video calls. Jazz says it is now ready to offer 5G services on the local market "whenever the government allows for the commercial launch".

Pakistan mobile market adds over 1 mln subscribers in November

The Pakistan mobile market grew to 164.03 million subscribers in November, up from 162.98 million the previous month, according to the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA). Total teledensity, which includes cellular as well as FLL and WLL services, reached 77.97 percent, down slightly from 78.47 percent of the population in October.

Jazz World passes 3 mln active user mark

Jazz World was released on iOS and Android in January. It lets customers check their prepaid mobile balance and postpaid bills, recharge accounts, pay phone bills, and access usage history and package information. People can also use the platform to submit complaints and buy Sims.

Jazz Q3 revenue drops 7% affected by tax ruling

Pakistani operator Jazz saw its revenue for the third quarter decline 7 percent from the year before to PKR 45.4 billion, including PKR 42 billion in mobile service revenue, a drop of 8 percent year-on-year. Of that number, mobile data contributed PKR 14.3 million, a jump of more 25 percent. Total revenue decline was caused by the reversal of the 'suo moto' order on 24 April 2019, as well as the Administration Fee Reversal.
