KPN expands LTE-A coverage to major cities
KPN has expanded its LTE-Advanced coverage to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Groningen, Eindhoven and Tilburg, the Dutch operator confirmed to local site Tweakers. The company first launched LTE-Advanced with speeds up to 225 Mbps last September in The Hague, after adding spectrum in the 1,800 MHz band to its 4G network. Vodafone Netherlands also launched LTE-A last autumn, while T-Mobile and Tele2 are still working on national coverage for their 4G networks. Over a fifth of Dutch mobile users already make use of 4G, according to research by Telecompaper in February.

Vodafone Netherlands expands 4G+ coverage

Vodafone Netherlands has expanded its 4G+ coverage to 130 municipalities, mainly around the largest cities Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and The Hague, as well as the northern Wadden islands. Vodafone spokesman Richard Mes could not provide details on how many customers are using the faster 4G service, noting few handsets are available on the market yet apart from some Samsung devices. KPN expands 4G+ to Nijmegen

KPN announced the launch of 4G+ service in Nijmegen, in time for the annual Vierdaagse walking event there. In addition to Nijmegen, the LTE-Advanced service was launched at a number of popular vacation spots such as the islands of Terschelling and Texel. In Nijmegen, KPN also increased capacity on its 2G and 3G network to accommodate visitors to the Vierdaagse.

KPN heeft dekking met 4G+, ofwel LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Den Haag, Groningen, Eindhoven en Tilburg. Dat meldt de provider aan Tweakers. KPN maakte in juni vorig jaar bekend het een maand later zou beginnen met de uitbreiding van zijn landelijk dekkende 4G-netwerk door het toevoegen van 1800 MHz-spectrum. De behaalde piekdownloadsnelheid lag bij een pilot in Delft boven de 200Mbps. Vodafone meldde eveneens vorig jaar, in september, dat het was begonnen met de uitrol van LTE-A.

T-Mobile claims fastest 4G network in Netherlands

T-Mobile has claimed the fastest 4G network in the Netherlands. Around 84,000 Ookla Speedtests by users of all three mobile operators in Q1, collated by DIKW in a study, found that T-Mobile has on average the fastest network both in upload and download speeds and ping time. Netherlands counts 4.3 million 4G users

There are around 4.3 million 4G users in the Netherlands, according to a survey of the three network operators by the paper AD. This is three times as many as a year ago. KPN tests tri-band LTE carrier aggregation

KPN announced the implementation of tri-band carrier aggregation on its mobile network. The operator is the first in the Netherlands and only the third in the world to use the technique. KPN has attracted 1.7 million 4G customers in the year and a half since it first launched LTE. KPN CEO Eelco Blok gave the figures in a presentation at Telecompaper's Mobiel 2014 conference. The Dutch operator said the launch comes in preparation of the availability of new smartphones that support the faster LTE standard, such as the iPhone 6.
