Lebara launches MVNO in Saudi Arabia
European operator Lebara announced the launch of a MVNO in Saudi Arabia. Lebara Mobile KSA is a Saudi company supported by an alliance of Saudi investors and the Lebara Group. The launch comes after it received one of two licences granted by the industry regulator earlier this year, and signals a new phase in Lebara's ongoing expansion strategy. 

Hosted by the Mobily network, Lebara's offering is designed to appeal to the estimated 10 million expatriates living in Saudi Arabia. Pre-paid Sim cards and recharge vouchers will be available in Saudi Post and other retailers across the country.

Saudi CITC extends bid deadline for MVNO licence

The Saudi Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has extended the deadline for bids for a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) licence whose holder will be able to offer services using Zain's infrastructure. Reuters said the deadline has been extended from June 2014 originally, then 13 August, and now to 10 December, following a number of requests from stakeholders. It gave no further details.

Axiom re-applies for Zain Saudi MVNO licence

Saudi Arabia's Communications and Information Technology Commission's (CITC) will re-tender an MVNO licence to use Zain Saudi's network, nearly a year after naming UAE-based retailer Axiom Telecom as the provisional winner, Reuters reported. The CITC did not say why it was re-tendering the licence but Axiom CEO Faisal al-Bannai told Reuters the firm had been unable to submit a document that the regulator required. He said Axiom has resolved that issue and would be submitting its tender in the next 48 hours.
