LG unveils new versions of mid-range K50 and K40 smartphones
LG has announced the upcoming launch of two new handsets in its mid-range ‘K Series’ ahead of IFA 2019 in September. The K50S and K40S Android 9 smartphones will offer “enhanced screens and more versatile cameras” as well as minimal bezels and “friendlier prices”, said the company. The LG K40S comes with a 6.1 inch HD+ display, a 2GHz octa core processor, 3500 mAh battery and either 2GB or 3GB of RAM plus 32GB of storage. It’s also equipped with a dual camera (13+5 MP) setup on the back and a 13 megapixel front-facing camera.

The new LG K50S, meanwhile, features a 6.5 inch HD+ display, a 2GHz octa core processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and a 4000 mAh battery. It has three rear cameras, including a 13-megapixel one with PDAF, a 2 MP one with Depth Sensor and a 5 MP one with Super Wide Angle, plus a 13 megapixel camera on the front.

LG didn’t reveal any pricing details but said the handsets will be available from October in a choice of New Aurora Black or New Moroccan Blue in Europe, Latin America and Asia.

LG Electronics reported a small increase in revenues and operating profit for the third quarter, due mainly to growth in its home appliances business. The mobile phone business remained deeply in the red, with sales sharply lower.

LG profits rise 4.3%, revenues reach record levels in Q3

Following a sharp profit drop in the second quarter, LG Electronics said preliminary results for the third quarter showed an increase in both revenues and profit. Revenues for the quarter lifted 1.8 percent year-on-year to nearly KRW 15.7 trillion, hitting record levels for Q3 results. The operator profit meanwhile advanced 4.3 percent to KRW 781.1 billion. Cumulative revenues for the first three quarters totalled KRW 46.24 trillion, also a record number.

LG unveils G8X ThinQ smartphone with second screen

LG has unveiled its latest G series smartphone at IFA 2019 in Berlin, an upgraded G8 with a secondary display case called the LG G8XThinQ. The device comes with a second screen case that's the same size as the phone's primary 6.4-inch FHD+ display, allowing users to activate a second display from settings. LG to add Naver's Whale browser to dual screen interface

LG has announced a partnership with South Korean search engine provider Naver to add the latter's Whale browser to the LG dual screen interface. The first new smartphones that come preinstalled with Naver's Chromium-based web browser will be unveiled at the forthcoming IFA trade show in Berlin from 06 September, added the company. In a statement, LG said Whale will support split screen mode, with an adjustable divider that allows users to multitask and browse two sites in the same tab.

SK Telecom, KT, LG Uplus launch RCS for Samsung smartphones

South Korean mobile operators SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus have introduced an upgraded text messaging service available on Samsung smartphones. The platform is called 'Chatting+' and is based on Rich Communication Services (RCS). LG Electronics plans to launch RCS-compatible devices later this year to join the platform, the three mobile operators said. SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus plan to initially offer the service free of charge, with no data deduction.

LG profits fall in Q2 as smartphone losses widen

LG Electronics reported a sharp fall in profits in the second quarter, due to widening losses at its smartphone and automotive businesses. While revenues were up 4.1 percent to KRW 15.63 trillion, operating profit dropped 15.4 percent from a year earlier to KRW 652 billion, and net profit more than halved to KRW 106 billion.
