Liberty Global and Hemisphere Media eyeing Univision bid - report
Liberty Global’s investment arm is working with Miami-based Hemisphere Media Group on a bid for Spanish-language broadcaster Univision Communications, reports Bloomberg, citing unnamed sources close to the matter. “This is a small investment that Liberty Global Ventures is exploring,” confirmed Liberty Global spokesman Matt Beake without commenting further. Final offers are due in February, according to one source, with private equity firm Platinum Equity also said to be interested, along with former Viacom chief financial officer Wade Davis, who has backing from institutional investors.

Univision previously rejected a takeover offer in 2017 from Discovery that had valued the company at more than USD 13 billion, subsequently abandoning plans for an IPO the following, and hiring financial advisers last July to look into strategic options, including a possible sale. The media giant had USD 7.4 billion of debt and USD 260 million of stockholder equity as of 30 September, added the report.
