Univision launches free Spanish-language streaming service PrendeTV

US Spanish-language broadcaster Univision has launched a new streaming platform called PrendeTV targeting the 63-million strong Latino audience in the US. PrendeTV is described as America’s first and only streaming channels-based and VOD service created specifically for US Hispanic audiences and follows last month's acquisition of Vix, an independent ad-supported video on demand (AVOD) platform.

PrendeTV features more than 40 entertainment channels, including sport, film and children’s programming, plus 11,000 hours of on-demand content, including shows from Univision and Mexican shareholder Grupo Televisa, plus Brazil’s Rede Globo and Colombia’s Caracol TV, among others.

The ad-supported service will also have over 150 blockbuster films from Hollywood studios, including Disney, Lionsgate and MGM, said Univision. The live channels include a total of 9 telenovela channels, 7 movie channels and 3 family channels, alongside dedicated football channels including ‘Liga Mex’ and ‘Futbol Europeo’, a wildlife channel called ‘Love Nature’ and a Japanese anime channel called ‘Animetro’.

PrendeTV is available to customers free of charge via Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV and iPhone, as well as Android phones and TV, with Roku devices to be added in the coming weeks.
