Liberty Global considers VTR spin-off
Liberty Global is considering a spin-off of its Latin American activities. Its main assets there are 80 percent in the Chile cable and mobile operator VTR and 60 percent of a cable network in Puerto Rico. The company made the announcement in the prospectus of a bond offering by VTR. The group is spinning off VTR's financing operations into a new company, separate from its main European holding company, UPC. As part of this, VTR will issue USD 1.4 billion in notes due 2022 and 2024 in order to pay off UPC credit facilities. 

Liberty Global said the spin-off of the Latin American operations could take the form of issuing shares in the new company to existing Liberty shareholders. However, the proposal is still at an early stage and no final decision has been taken yet.

Liberty Global increases share buyback by USD 1 bln

Liberty Global announced that its board increased authorisation for the company's share buyback programe by USD 1.0 billion. VTR signs agreement with Chilean SMEs

Chilean pay-TV operator VTR has signed an agreement with the Chamber of Commerce of Santiago (CCS) to allow about 2,000 SMEs to access pay-TV as an advertising medium, reports La Tercera. VTR Movil disconnects 44% of subscribers in three months

Chilean operator VTR Movil has disconnected 61,000 prepaid connections, reducing the user base by 44 percent to 80,000 customers, reports Diario Financiero. The data is taken from a report filed by parent company Liberty Global with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC). In September, Liberty Global shortened the period for excluding inactive pre-paid customers to only 30 days, compared to an industry average of around six months.

Chilean cable operator VTR saw its third-quarter revenues increase by 3.8 percent to USD 244.8 million, from USD 241 million in the year-ago period, parent company UPC reported. VTR may launch streaming TV service by end-2013

Chilean cable operator VTR will launch a streaming TV service, possibly even by the end of the year, according to general manager Guillermo Ponce.
