Liquid Telecom appoints Abu as CEO in Nigeria including new Africa Data Centre

Liquid Telecom has appointed Wole Abu as CEO for Liquid Telecom Nigeria and its new Africa Data Centre (ADC) in the country, effective January 2021. The organisation had recently acquired a premium piece of land in Lagos to build the data centre, which will be the single largest one in Africa outside of South Africa. ADC will address the growing demand for cloud storage and digital services on the continent, and Abu will be responsible for overseeing the growth of ADC's operations in this new market.

Before joining Liquid Telecom, Abu was the CEO of Pan African Towers (PAT), and before that, he served as the vice president of sales at Airtel Nigeria. He has also held several senior management roles in the human resources, engineering, operations, finance, legal and marketing departments.

Liquid Telecom arm Liquid Telecommunications Financing has successfully arranged its bond and term loan financing package totaling a combined USD 840 million-equivalent to refinance existing debt and support growth. The successful placing included USD 620 million on international bond markets and USD 220 million-equivalent South African rand term loan.

Liquid Telecom buys MEA ops of Microsoft Dynamics specialist Quattro

Liquid Telecom Group has acquired the Middle East and Africa operations of Quattro Business Solutions (QBS), which specialises in Microsoft Dynamics enterprise software. The acquisition will enhance Liquid Telecom's digital service offerings. Liquid Telecom activates fibre across border between South Africa and Botswana

Liquid Telecom is activating 82 km of fibre in a cross-border network into Botswana, according to ITNewsAfrica. This expansion connects Lobatse at the border with South Africa, to Botswanan capital city Gaborone, to create efficient mobility and connectivity in Botswana. Liquid Telecom has announced a partnership with infrastructure provider Zayo Group under which they will use existing networks for their customers with operations in North America and Europe in addition to their African operations. Liquid Telecom is proposing to buy back Botswana Power Corporation's (BPC's) stake in Liquid Telecom Botswana, The SundayStandard reported. Liquid Telecom has a controlling 57.5 percent stake in Liquid Telecom Botswana and the Competition and Consumer Authority is considering its proposal to acquire the other 42.5 percent currently held by BPC, according to the report.

Liquid Telecom and Africa Data Centres have announced a strategic partnership agreement with Jarrett Appleby, CEO of Appleby Strategy Group, to serve as senior business development and transactional advisor for both companies. Appleby has served in this consulting role since May and will help to strengthen Liquid Telecom's effort to deliver a comprehensive suite of hyperscale data centre services and drive its growth strategies and partnerships at a global level.

Rack Centre announces USD 100 mln data centre expansion in Lagos

West African carrier neutral data centre operator Rack Centre has announced an expansion to a total net lettable white space of 6,000 square metres and 13 MW of IT power capacity at its Lagos campus, ITWeb reported. This increase will supplement the expansion already under way to double existing capacity to 1.5 MW and 1,200 square metres of white space in early 2021. The report said the expansion is worth USD 100 million.
