Masmovil, Orange Spain extend fibre sharing deal to further 2.2 mln premises

Spanish operator Masmovil has announced a new agreement with Orange Spain to share fibre-optic infrastructure in over 2.2 million newly-built FTTH premises. In a statement to securities markets regulator CNMV, Masmovil said it has committed to building 500,000 of the residential units, with the option of extending that figure by an additional 250,000, with the rest deployed by Orange Spain. The operators have committed to wholesale use of their respective networks for a period of 20 years.

Masmovil added that the new wholesale bitstream deal will not result in an increase in the net capital expenditure previously announced by the group but could result in recurrent savings of EUR 5 million per year if the operator were able to obtain a reasonable market share on the network deployed by Orange.

Masmovil last year announced a deal to expand its partnership with Orange to enable the faster rollout of 5G and connect to an additional 5.2 million Orange fibre homes it previously accessed in bitstream mode, helping it expand its FTTH network to over 14 million homes in 2020. When added to other wholesale deals, Masmovil is now able to offer fibre-optic services in over 24 million homes throughout Spain.

Cellnex, Masmovil consortium to carry out Barcelona 5G pilot

Spanish operators Cellnex Telecom and Masmovil announced plans to conduct a series of pilots in the Barcelona metropolitan area to test and develop 5G systems in sectors including education, industry, commerce, tourism, transport as well as safety and emergency management. Masmovil confirms FY20 and FY21 guidance, bidders secure EUR 2 bln loan

Spanish telecommunications provider Masmovil, the country's fourth largest network operator, has reiterated its full-year guidance for 2020 and 2021, taking into account the impact of the coronavirus epidemic on its business. In a filing with securities market regulator CNMV, the operator said it expected to achieve an adjusted EBITDA of EUR 570-600 million this year, with a margin of 30-32 percent, rising to EUR 670-700 million, with a margin of 32-34 percent in 2021.

Australian infrastructure fund Macquarie Capital has teamed up with Aberdeen Standard Investments and Daiwa Corporate Investment to launch Onivia, described as Spain's first independent and neutral provider of wholesale only FTTH services. The company said its wholesale network will create an alternative source of fibre capacity for smaller ISPs and for large operators without infrastructure in the areas covered.

Orange Spain launches Go Flexible plan with 100GB over 6 months

Orange Spain has expanded its Go-branded range of mobile plans with the launch of a new tariff called Go Flexible allowing the consumption of up to 100GB of data over 6 months. The postpay plan will be available from 15 June and comes with unlimited calls and a fixed 10GB data bundle plus a 40GB bonus for use when required during a 6-month period for EUR 24.95 a month. By way of a promotion, new subscribers to Go Flexible will be given a 50 percent discount on the monthly price for 6 months.

Masmovil adds 373,000 customers in Q1, confirms full-year guidance

Spanish telecommunications provider Masmovil, the country's fourth largest network operator, reported net revenues of EUR 445 million in the first quarter of 2020, up 16 percent year on year, and service revenues of EUR 401 million, up 20 percent, after adding a record 373,000 mobile and fibre customers over the period. Adjusted EBITDA was up 27 percent year on year to EUR 134 million, with the company's EBITDA margin climbing 3 percentage points to 30 percent.

Spanish FTTH lines up 127,000 in January, Orange and Telefonica shed lines

Spanish operators signed up a further 127,646 fibre to the home (FTTH) subscribers in January to increase the number of active connections in the country to 10.3 million, according to the latest monthly update from regulator CNMC.
