Megafon plans LTE launch on Yota network in H1

Russian mobile operator Megafon plans to launch LTE in Moscow and other regions across the country in H1 of this year, reports Tass-Telecom citing a statement from the company. Megafon has received a MVNO licence to offer services over the network of Scartel, working under the Yota brand. The two earlier agreed to work together on the joint development of a LTE network in Russia. Yota CEO Denis Sverdlov told Tass-Telecom that the operator plans to launch the LTE network in Moscow on 15 April. With Yota required to phase out its Wimax services, it will offer existing subscribers a free LTE device. For other customers, a LTE modem will cost RUB 2,900 and a router will be offered for RUB 4,900. Yota first launched LTE services late last year, in Novosibirsk.
