Microsoft supports Philippines' TV white space initiative

The Philippines' Information and Communications Technology Office of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-ICTO) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Microsoft on the use of TV white space technologies (TVWS). DOST-ICO launched its TVWS initiative in 2012 to find ways to maximise unused TV spectrum for data communications, such as for e-learning, telehealth, environmental sensor, and telemedicine projects. The technology could also be used to provide basic internet access in rural areas, the PhilStar reports.
