Microsoft has announced the launch of a new “chat-based workspace” dubbed Microsoft Teams for Office 365 users. The company’s bid to compete with established enterprise communication tools such as Slack and Workplace by Facebook offers full integration with Outlook, SharePoint and Yammer. It brings together chat, meeting notes, Office, Planner, PowerBI and other ecosystem-developed extensions and applications to help teams get work done, said Microsoft. Teams can work on documents together and even customise the tool with emojis, GIFs, custom stickers and memes. Skype is also fully integrated, as a third-party services such as Twitter and GitHub.
Microsoft Teams is available now as a preview to Office 365 commercial customers with Office 365 Enterprise or Business plans in 180 different countries, with general availability scheduled for the first quarter of next year.
