Millicom has decided to unify its Colombian operations under the Tigo brand starting later this month, reports La Republica, citing TigoUne's president Marcelo Cataldo. Around 5 years after Tigo completed its merger with Colombian cable and fixed line operator UNE, owned by Empresas Publicas de Medellin (EPM), the company has decided to simplify its offer with a view to building a single ecosystem for different services. "Simplifying the brand will allow us to increase recognition and be in tune with trends on a global scale," said Cataldo.
The decision affects TigoUne’s subsidiaries Edatel, Colombia Movil and Orbitel Servicios Internacionales, although UNE EPM Telecomunicaciones will continue to exist as an incorporated company, said the report.
