MTN Group values mobile-money arm at USD 5 bln, mulls IPO

MTN Group estimates its mobile-money business is worth about USD 5 billion, and the mobile operator will consider a potential IPO for the activities. MTN's valuation of its unit follows Mastercard and TPG Holdings investing in Airtel Africa's mobile-money business at a USD 2.65 billion value. MTN CEO Ralph Mupita told Bloomberg that with similar valuations, MTN's business would be worth USD 5 billion.
