Nokia inaugurates 'Future X' 5G research lab in Finland

Nokia has inaugurated a new lab at its global headquarters in Espoo, Finland, that it says will act as a showcase for its full range of 5G equipment, software and services. The ‘5G Future X Lab' offers an extensive build-out of a 5G end-to-end network, allowing communications service providers, businesses and infrastructure providers alike to experience live hardware, software and full network slicing operations, said the company.

In addition to serving Nokia’s 5G customers, the Espoo lab will also provide an innovation platform for internal Nokia research, prototype development and testing, as well as enable engagement with the wider research and innovation ecosystem, added the vendor. The facility is in fact a European extension of Nokia’s Future X Lab in Murray Hill, New Jersey (US).

Visitors to the Future X Lab in Espoo will be able to see real consumer, enterprise and industrial scenarios in a range of simulated and physical environments, all orchestrated on a single network managing individual network slices, said Nokia. Highlights include a service and slicing operations centre, massive scale access, a universal adaptive core, a programmable network operating system, a digital value platform and dynamic data security.
