Nokia marks 50 5G commercial contracts with wins at Docomo Pacific, Spark
Nokia announced it has secured two commercial contracts from Docomo Pacific and New Zealand operator Spark, marking its 49th and 50th 5G contracts. Nokia is already powering 16 live 5G networks globally.

Agreement with Docomo Pacific

Under the Docomo contract, Nokia is enabling commercial 5G services for enterprise customers on the islands of the Marianas. Nokia said it already played a key role in the establishment of the Docomo 5G Open Lab, which allows local and global partners to test and collaborate on creating practical products powered by 5G.

Deal with Spark

As one of the radio access network (RAN) equipment suppliers for Spark’s 5G upgrade, Nokia will deploy its AirScale RAN platform at more than 200 sites. Nokia said it will also deploy other products and services from across its portfolio including digital design and deployment services.

The agreement follows the launch earlier in 2019 of New Zealand’s first 5G trial customer service. The trial, which took place in Alexandra, South Island, used the latest Nokia radio equipment to offer selected business and consumer customers the opportunity to experience high-speed wireless broadband delivered by 5G. At present, Nokia is working with Spark to deploy 5G functionality to an additional 5 sites before the Christmas period.
