NOS: mobiel bankieren verdubbeld in 2012

Mobile payments: consumer preferences for APP or NFC

This chart shows how Dutch consumers (15-65 yrs) would like to pay via their mobile in future. People could choose from 10 options that can generally be split into either an app or NFC. Data is for August and September 2012 (n=2,020). The chart shows the answer to the question: "Currently you can pay in shops with your debit card, credit card, chipknip or with cash. In future it might be more common to pay via your mobile phone. We would like to know how you would prefer to pay via your mobile phone in future. Say you could choose between an app on your mobile phone or via a NFC chip in or on your mobile phone (you would have to hold your phone before a NFC reader, like the OV chip card), which of the following options would you prefer? Assume there are enough interesting shops and that mobile payment is as easy and safe as the debit card." Answers included 'App from independent third party', 'App from my bank', 'App from phone manufacturer (such as iTunes)', 'App from store (you will need several apps to enable purchases in several stores)', 'NFC built in phone, charged to mobile subscription', 'NFC built in phone, linked to credit card', 'NFC built in phone, linked to current account', 'NFC sticker on phone, charged to mobile subscription', 'NFC sticker on phone, linked to credit card', 'NFC sticker on phone, linked to current account' and 'don't know'. The don't know results have been excluded. Source: Telecompaper Consumer Panel.
