Oculus Rift to launch in Europe, Canada on 20 September
The Oculus Rift will go on sale in Europe and Canada on 20 September, the company announced. The suggested retail price in Europe is GBP 549/EUR 699.

Sellers will include Amazon.co.uk, John Lewis, Curry’s PCWorld, GAME and Harrods in the UK; Amazon.fr and FNAC in France; Amazon.de, MediaMarkt and Saturn in Germany; and Best Buy and Microsoft Store Online in Canada. Pre-orders start 16 August, with shipments and in-store sales from 20 September. 

The Oculus Rift first went on sale in the US earlier this year. Participants in the company's Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign were the first to receive the virtual reality headset.

Oculus reveals standalone Santa Cruz VR headset prototype

Facebook-owned Oculus has announced at the Oculus Connect developers conference that it's working on a standalone version of its Oculus Rift VR headset codenamed Santa Cruz. The prototype can wirelessly connect to the cloud and features inside-out-positional-tracking. The device's reliance on its own built-in processing power and sensors opens the way to standalone as an entirely new VR category, said Facebook in a blog. No details about future availability or pricing were disclosed.

Oculus Touch controllers available in December for USD 199

Facebook has announced at an Oculus Connect event that the long-delayed Oculus Touch controllers will be launched on 06 December for USD 199 a pair. Preorders will start on 10 October and come with two free games: The Unspoken and VR Sports Challenge. In a blog post, Facebook said the circular Touch controller comes with two analogue sticks, two buttons, an analogue trigger, haptic feedback and a hand trigger. It also features a Rock Band VR connector.

Google launches Daydream VR development tools

Google's VR SDK has exited from beta, which means its Daydream VR platform is now available for developers to build VR experiences for Daydream-ready phones and headsets, Techcrunch.com reported, citing Google. The platform supports integration with Unity and Unreal game engines and tools. With Daydream platform, Google wants to bring users' favourite apps to VR.

Oculus gaat de vr-bril Oculus Rift vanaf 20 september te koop aanbieden in Canada en een aantal Europese landen. De verkoopadviesprijs bedraagt 699 euro. Facebook-onderdeel Oculus begon 29 maart dit jaar met de uitlevering van de vr-bril in de VS, die daar te koop is voor 599 dollar. Nederland staat nog niet in de lijst van landen waar de Rift wordt uitgeleverd, het gaat om het VK, Frankrijk, Duitsland en Canada.

Dassault develops 3D flight sim for Oculus Rift VR

French aircraft manufacturer Dassault Aviation is claiming at world first by using Oculus Rift VR headsets to simulate flying a fighter drone (nEUROn), a civil aircraft (Falxon 7X) and a fighter jet (Rafale) in formation. Combining aeronautical and digital technology, Dassault and Modedemploi Softeam Digital developed the "Immersive Dassault Aviation" app for Oculus Rift as a marketing tool for air shows, but now available for download by anyone at the company's website.

Global shipments of Virtual Reality (VR) hardware are set to "skyrocket" this year, with total volumes growing to 9.6 million units from 350,000 in 2015, according to a report from IDC. Oculus Rift shipments hit some delays on parts shortage

Oculus Rift shipments may encounter some delays due to parts shortage, the Wall Street Journal reported. The Facebook unit said an unexpected component shortage will be slowing deliveries of its new USD 599 Oculus Rift headsets for some customers. Oculus did not specify which components were affected, nor did it provide any more information about how long the delays would be or how many shipments would be affected. The company did not respond to a request for comment.

Oculus starts shipping Rift to first customers

Oculus has started shipping its Rift virtual reality headset to the first customers. The company said customers who subscribed in its Kickstarter campaign will receive the devices first, in over 20 countries around the world. While the initial pre-sales suggested delivery in March for the new device, after a day the date had been pushed back to June.
