Orange expands Netflix distribution internationally, renews partnership in France

Orange announced that it has renewed the agreement signed in 2014 for the distribution of Netflix content to its TV customers in France, and has expanded its partnership with Netflix to cover all countries where the group is present across Europe, Africa and the Middle East. 

Orange already offers Netflix in France and Spain as part of its bundles, with Poland scheduled to launch the service in the coming months. More countries will follow in 2018, said the company.

The news coincides with the announcement that Netflix plans to invest in its first original TV series in the Polish language, expected to be completed next year.

Netflix hits 1 million users in Spain - study

Netflix reached the milestone of 1 million subscribers in Spain in the second quarter of 2017 after once again doubling its customer base in the first 6 months of the year, according to the latest consumer household survey conducted by communications regulator CNMC. A total of 1.16 million homes throughout the country had subscribed to the video streaming service at the end of June, equivalent to 7.3 percent of internet households, up from 3.4 percent at the end of 2016.

Orange sales growth slows on roaming impact, EBITDA still up in Q3

Orange saw its sales growth slow in the third quarter on the introduction of roam-like-home in the EU, but said increased volumes of visitor roaming largely offset the drop in roaming prices. Total revenues fell 0.5 percent to EUR 10.274 billion, but were up 0.9 percent on a comparable basis.

Orange France to add own-branded 4K TVs to product portfolio – report

Orange France will offer at least two 4K TVs under its own brand by the end of the year, based on information gathered by Satellifax. Among its forthcoming products, the operator will also sell a new own-brand sound bar from Cabasse with Dolby Atmos surround sound, which was presented the Orange 'Hello' show in April.

Orange becomes first operator to offer new Apple watch in France

Orange France has opened pre-orders for the Apple Watch Series 3, stating on its website that the LTE-enabled device will be available exclusively on its network from 22 September. Eligible customers will have access to a multi-SIM voice and data add-on to share their allowance with the watch, offered free of charge for the first six months for purchases made between 22 September and 03 October.

Netflix has continued to invest in European productions and has announced its first original series in the Polish language. Academy Award-nominee Agnieszka Holland and Kasia Adamik will direct the eight-episode season, which will be shot in various cities and regions in Poland. The show is expected to launch for Netflix members around the world in 2018.

Netflix commissions first original Swedish production by 'The Bridge' writer

Netflix has commissioned its first Swedish original drama from Camilla Ahlgren, the head writer of 'The Bridge', according to news portal C21Media. It is called 'Quicksand' and is based on a novel with the same title by Malin Persson Giolito. Production by local company FLX will begin in 2018 on the serial, which concerns a mass shooting at a school in a wealthy Stockholm suburb and the pupil who is put on trial for murder.

This represents an intensification of existing medium-term initiatives and articulates the company's strategic vision to 2020. As part of its Orange.one strategy, Orange Poland has published new business objectives for 2020 and revised medium-term financial guidance. At the same time, a new share-based incentive scheme was announced.

French pay-TV company OCS, majority owned by Orange, has signed a multi-year agreement with US pay-TV network HBO that extends and expands the existing content partnership between Orange and HBO. As part of the new deal, OCS will in time become the exclusive broadcaster of HBO programmes in France, and the company's 2.6 million subscribers will soon have unlimited access to HBO's full catalogue within a dedicated SVoD area.
