Paraguay officially launches 700M MHz tender

Paraguay's telecommunications regulator Conatel has announced the official launch of the long-awaited tender for spectrum in the 700 MHz band. A total of 7 licences of 5 x 5 MHz each will be made available for auction at a minimum amount of USD 12 million per block. In total, the regulator is looking to raise at least USD 84 million for the five-year licences.

Interested bidders have until 24 November to consult on the rules and until 04 December to submit their bids, which will be opened on the same day. The 700 MHz band will used above all to complement the 1700-2100 MHz spectrum acquired by Claro (America Movil) and Tigo (Millicom) in 2015 in the deployment of 4G technology in the country, above all in rural areas, said Conatel head Teresita Palacios.
