Claro, Tigo awarded Paraguay 4G spectrum
Paraguay's telecoms regulator Conatel has assigned six blocks of mobile frequencies in the 1,700-2100 MHz (AWS) band to Claro (America Movil) and Tigo (Millicom), reports local daily Ultima Hora. An auction wasn't required because Personal (Telecom Italia) decided against making an offer and Claro and Tigo were given the 4G spectrum blocks they requested for a total of USD 90 million, or USD 15 million for each 5+5 MHz block, the basic cost set out in the initial tender conditions. The concessions have been granted for a period of five years and the operators have until June-August 2016 to activate 4G services.

Personal Paraguay has reached 120,000 active 4G-LTE users around 4 months after launching the service, reports local daily La Nacion, citing the company's general manager Juan Carlos Pepe. Tigo, Flexenclosure to build Paraguay data centre

Tigo Paraguay (Millicom) has announced a deal with Sweden-based prefabricated data centre provider Flexenclosure to build the first Tier 3-certified data centre in Paraguay. The data centre, due to open in April, will be located in Paraguay's capital Asuncion and will be the first professional colocation facility in the country, said Tigo. The 2 MW plant will have an initial capacity of 110 racks and will be able to house up to 260 racks at full capacity.

Tigo Paraguay (Millicom) has confirmed that it will commercially launch its 4G services in March 2016, having recently acquired the corresponding spectrum in the 1,700-2,100 MHz (AWS) band. Paraguay's telecoms regulator Conatel has announced an extension to the public consultation on its long-delayed auction of frequencies in the 4G spectrum. The regulator said the deadline for the submission of comments on the forthcoming auction of six blocks in the 1,700-2100 MHz (AWS) band is now 21 September. Conatel is hoping to hold the auction by the end of the year and has published the draft bidding conditions on its website.

Paraguayan telecoms regulator Conatel has awarded a block of 10 MHz in the 700 MHz band to state-run telecoms operator Copaco, reports local daily ABC. The allocation is intended to compensate for the 10 MHz of spectrum in the 1,700-2100 MHz (AWS) band taken away from Copaco for the auction of frequencies in the 4G spectrum due by the end of 2015. However, Copaco's technical director Luis Cardozo criticised the regulator's decision, pointing out the operator will need to free up funds for 4G deployment.
