Paraguay's Copaco awarded 10 MHz in the 700 MHz band

Paraguayan telecoms regulator Conatel has awarded a block of 10 MHz in the 700 MHz band to state-run telecoms operator Copaco, reports local daily ABC. The allocation is intended to compensate for the 10 MHz of spectrum in the 1,700-2100 MHz (AWS) band taken away from Copaco for the auction of frequencies in the 4G spectrum due by the end of 2015. However, Copaco’s technical director Luis Cardozo criticised the regulator’s decision, pointing out the operator will need to free up funds for 4G deployment.

Conatel recently announced that a public consultation on the 4G auction will be open until 14 September, with the draft bidding conditions now available on the regulator’s website.
