Qualcomm invests EUR 85.7 mln into JioPlatforms
Reliance Industries has welcomed a new investor in Indian operator Jio Platforms, with the acquisition by Qualcomm of a 0.15 percent stake on a fully diluted basis for EUR 85.7 million.  Reliance Industries said the deal will deepen the ties between Qualcomm and Jio Platforms and help the company deploy 5G for Indian customers. 

The deal is subjet to the usual regulatory conditions. 

Jio has raised about EUR 14.85 billion over the past few months, with Intel coming last on board before Qualcommn. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, TPG, L.Catterton, Facebook, Silver Lake, ista Equity Partners, General Atlantic, KKR, Mubadala and Adia have also taken shares. Amazon and Vista have also bought stakes.

Jio Platforms quarterly profit jumps nearly 20%, revenue up 7%

Jio Platforms, a subsidiary of India's Reliance Industries, posted revenue of INR 217 billion (approximately USD 2.9 billion) for its second quarter ended 30 September 2020, which represents a sequential increase of 7.1 percent compared to the quarter ended 30 June 2020. Consolidated revenue from operations, including access revenues, grew by 7.2 percent to INR 184.9 billion.

US-based social video platform Triller teams up with India's JioSaavn streaming service

Triller, a US-based social video plaform in competition with TikTok, has teamed up with JioSaavn, a streaming service owned by India's Reliance. Under the deal, Triller will be embedded into the streamer, which means that any music watched within JioSaavn will automatically be a Triller music video. There will also be a button, "Make a Triller Video" on the main screen of the platform. The move is expected to exponentially increase the number of Triller users and usage. Reliance Jio's quarterly profit jumps 183%, with EBITDA up more than 55%

Indian operator Reliance Jio saw its revenue increase by 33.7 percent year-on-year to INR 165.57 billion in its first quarter ended 30 June 2020. EBITDA jumped 55.4 percent year-on-year to INR 72.81 billion, driving net profit to INR 25.20 billion during the quarter, up 183 percent year-on-year. EBITDA margin reached 44 percent in the three months to 30 June 2020.

Jio applies for spectrum to start 5G trials - report

Indian operator Reliance Jio has developed its own 5G solution "from scratch", chairman Mukesh Ambani announced. The company plans to launch "a world-class 5G service in India… using 100% home grown technologies and solutions", he said in a statement at the Reliance Industries annual shareholders meeting.

Google buys stake in Jio for USD 4.5 bln, to partner on affordable smartphone

Google is the latest company to invest in Jio Platforms, the Indian company owned by Reliance Industries which owns the mobile and fibre operator Jio. Google will pay USD 4.5 billion (INR 337.37 billion) for a 7.73 percent stake in Jio Platforms. As part of the deal, the companies will work together on an entry-level smartphone based on Google's Android system to help more Indians get online.

Reliance Jio launches JioMeet HD video conferencing platform

India's Reliance Jio has launches its HD video conferencing app dubbed 'JioMeet'. The platform can support up to 100 participants simultaneously and there are no invite codes needed for the call to begin, LiveMint reports, citing a company statement. App users can also schedule meetings, share screens with each other and more. JioMeet is available for download on Google Play Store and App Store.

Reliance Jio to start 5G trials using in-house developed equipment – report

Indian mobile operator Reliance Jio is seeking approval from the country's Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to test its in-house developed 5G products, the Financial Express reports, citing unnamed sources. According to the same source, if it receives the watchdog's approval, Reliance Jio would have to undertake the whole testing process on its own, including setting up the test network at its premises since in a lab testing, with no third-party involved.

Saudi wealth fund buys stake in Jio for almost EUR 1.3 bln

Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund (PIF) has bought a 2.32 percent stake in Indian operator Jio Platforms for INR 113.67 billion (almost EUR 1.3 billion). This means the company has raised INR 1.157 trillion since 22 April, with investments from TPG, L Catterton, Facebook, Silver Lake, ista Equity Partners, General Atlantic, KKR, Mubadala and Adia.

Reliance Jio sells more stakes, for over EUR 750 mln

Reliance Industries and its subsidiary Jio Platforms said they have sold a 0.93 percent stake in Reliance Jio to investment firm TPG for about EUR 533 million. They have also let private equity firm L Catterton buy a 0.39 percent stake for EUR 222 million. With the two investments, Jio Platforms has raised a total of EUR 12.223 billion since 22 April, following investments also from Facebook, Silver Lake, Vista Equity Partners, General Atlantic, KKR, Mubadala and Adia.

The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) has bought a stake in Jio Platforms of 1.16 percent, for INR 56.83 billion, or over EUR 667 million. The latest investment brings Jio Platforms' enterprise value to INR 5.16 trillion, the company said.

Mubadala's investment will translate into a 1.85 percent equity stake in Jio Platforms on a fully diluted basis.

KKR acquires 2.32% stake in Jio Platforms for nearly INR 114 billion

Reliance Industries and Jio Platforms have announced today that KKR will invest INR 113.67 billion into Jio Platforms. This transaction values Jio Platforms at an equity value of INR 4.91 and an enterprise value of INR 5.16 trillion. KKR's investment will translate into a 2.32 percent equity stake in Jio Platforms on a fully diluted basis. Over the last month, Facebook, Silver Lake, Vista, General Atlantic and KKR have announced aggregate investments of INR 785.62 billion into Jio Platforms.
