Qualcomm loses latest patent claim against Apple in Germany

Qualcomm has lost a court case in Munich against Apple, reports Handelsblatt. The German court rejected Qualcomm's claim that Apple infringed one of its patents for chip design technology. The company had been seeking an injunction banning the sale of iPhones for the offence.

Qualcomm chief lawyer Don Rosenberg noted that the company has a total of 13 patent cases against Apple underway in Germany. He did not say whether the company would appeal the latest ruling. Apple declined to comment.

Qualcomm, Apple agree to settle legal disputes, start new licensing agreement

Qualcomm and Apple have agreed to put an end to their licensing dispute and sign a new deal. The settlement includes an unspecified payment from Apple to Qualcomm and an end to all their litigation, including with contracters. The companies also have reached a six-year licence agreement, effective from 01 April, including a two-year option to extend, and a multiyear chipset supply agreement.

Qualcomm awarded USD 31 mln in damages in Apple patent infringement suit

Qualcomm announced that a jury in the US District Court for the Southern District of California found that the Apple iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus and X infringe two Qualcomm patents, and the Apple iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X also infringe a third patent. The jury awarded Qualcomm USD 31 million in damages for infringement of the patents from July 2017, when the lawsuit was filed, through the end of the trial.

Qualcomm announced that it has posted EUR 1.34 billion in bonds in Germany in order to enforce a court order against sales of Apple devices in the country. The court ordered Apple in December to cease the sale and import of certain iPhones found to be infringing Qualcomm's patents for power-saving technology. The court also ordered Apple to recall infringing iPhones from third-party resellers in Germany.
