Qualcomm announced that it has posted EUR 1.34 billion in bonds in Germany in order to enforce a court order against sales of Apple devices in the country. The court ordered Apple in December to cease the sale and import of certain iPhones found to be infringing Qualcomm's patents for power-saving technology. The court also ordered Apple to recall infringing iPhones from third-party resellers in Germany.
Apple has said it plans to appeal the ruling. This will not stop the sales ban from taking effect, and throughout the appeals process, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 models will not be sold in its 15 retail stores in Germany, the company said. Its newest models, the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR, will still be sold in those stores, and all iPhone models will be available through carriers and other third-party retailers in Germany, Apple said.
