
E-reading services provider Rakuten Kobo has introduced the ‘Kobo Aura H2O’, an updated version of the original crowd-pleasing waterproof e-reader. The Kobo Aura H2O will be available in black for CAN 199.99 in Canada at the kobo.comFile website. Pre-orders will be available starting with 15 May. The device will also be available at select retailers starting with 22 May.
Rakuten will start selling its Kobo Aura H2O e-reader on 22 May in the US, the UK, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Japan, and Turkey. The device will become available in Sweden in June, in Australia and New Zealand in July, as well as in the Philippines, Mexico and Brazil later this year.
The Kobo Aura H2O e-reader allows users to read in direct sunlight due to its anti-glare E Ink display. ComfortLight Pro is designed to reduce blue-light spectrum. The device is waterproofed with HZO Protection for reading near water. The coating technology applied to the device’s interior allows it to be fully submerged without the need for port covers, Rakuten says. With 8GB of storage, the new Kobo Aura H2O Edition 2 stores up to 6,000 eBooks.
In addition, sales of the Kobo Aura Edition 2, an eReader in a lightweight design that is already available overseas, will also start in Japan on 23 May. The Kobo Aura Edition 2 features a 6-inch Carta E Ink touchscreen, and offers access to millions of books 24/7 through a Wi-Fi connection. The device comes with 4 GB of memory of on-board memory to store up to 3,000 eBooks.
