RTL Germany launches free VoD portal WatchBox
RTL Deutschland announced the launch of a free streaming video service called Watchbox. Replacing its former Clipfish VoD portal, the new ad-supported service Watchbox offers a range of films and series to watch on-demand across apps for mobile devices and PCs, media players such as Amazon Fire, Xbox One, Apple TV and Chromecast, and smart TVs. 

RTL said the content will focus on a number of genres, including Independent, British, Horror, Comedy, Science Fiction, Thriller and Anime. At the launch, over 1,000 films and 3,000 series episodes are available, and more will be added regularly. The offer includes films such as 'Matchpoint' and 'Leaves of Grass' as well as the British series 'Utopia', Canada's 'Darknet' and the Swedish 'Real humans'. 

Watchbox also offers recommendations and over 100 curated lists of content, such as 'Hollywood stars in their first roles', 'Award-winning indie pearls' and 'Shoot-outs with weapons in the starring role'.

RTL revenues up 9% in Q2 as online growth offsets TV ad market slump

RTL Group reported second-quarter revenues of EUR 1.573 billion, up 8.8 percent from a year earlier as growth at its production arm FreemantleMedia and its online business helped offset a slump in European TV advertising markets. EBITDA fell 7.4 percent to EUR 362 million, but excluding a one-time gain at M6 a year ago was up 4.0 percent on an annual basis. Net profit declined to EUR 183 million from EUR 203 million a year earlier.

RTL Duitsland start gratis VoD portal Watchbox

RTL Duitsland kondigt de lancering van een gratis streaming videodienst aan onder de naam Watchbox. Deze dienst geldt als vervanging voor de Clipfish VoD protal. De nieuwe op advertenties gebaseerde dienst biedt een reeks aan films en series die on demand via verschillende apps, mobiele devices, pc's, media players (Amazon Fire, Xbox One, Apple TV en Chromecast) en smart tv's bekeken kunnen worden.

RTL Germany grows audience share to 31%

Broadcasting group RTL Germany has recorded its highest market share for January in three years. Channels within the RTL Group, including RTL, Vox, N-TV, RTL Nitro, Super RTL, RTL II and RTLplus, attracted 31.2 percent of the German audience aged 14 to 59. The group has not recorded audience figures this high since January 2014, when its market share hit 32.5 percent. Its largest competitor in the German market, ProSiebenSat.1, attracted 24.1 percent of the market in January 2017.

RTL most watched private TV station in Germany

RTL had the most viewers of any German private TV station in 2016, though public stations continued to attract the largest market shares, new figures from the VPRT show. According to figures released by the German telecommunications association VPRT, RTL was the most popular private station among German viewers on an average day in 2015-2016, attracting 9.7 percent of the market. However, public stations pulled in the greatest share of viewers, with ZDF securing a market share of 13 percent.

Clipfish launches free app for Apple TV

The RTL group video portal Clipfish has launched a free app to watch its video content, including RTL TV programmes, more than 1,000 films, 2,700 episodes of anime and TV series as well as 100,000 music videos, on Apple TV. The app is available for the fourth generation of Apple TV.

Clipfish extends cooperation with BBC Worldwide

The RTL group video portal Clipfish extended its cooperation with BBC Worldwide for TV programmes on a long-term basis. Clipfish offers now 100 hours of content including mystery, comedy and crime series. All content, some of which is available in German and some in both German and the English original version, can be accessed online and via Clipfish apps free of charge and with no subscription necessary. The content is also available for owners of smart TVs, PC/laptops, tablets and smartphones.

Media Group RTL Deutschland has launched the new smart TV channel Clipfish Filme for internet-ready TV sets, including more than 800 feature films. Media group RTL Germany has launched the new Clipfish Comedy free TV channel for internet-enabled TVs via HbbTV. The channel gives comedy fans access to around 30 comedy formats in video clips. With the launch of Clipfish Comedy, users of online video portal Clipfish can also access the RTL digitaltext, VOX digitaltext and N-tv digitaltext services.
