Samsung Galaxy Fold smartphone sales hit 1 mln mark

Samsung has sold 1 million of its foldable Galaxy Fold smartphones, president Young Sohn said at TechCrunch Disrupt Berlin, widely passing estimates of 500,000 sold by early 2020. “There’s a million people that want to use this product at USD 2,000,” Sohn said. 

The device was first unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2019 but hit launch delays due to technical issues. Release came in September, with plans to ship the phone to 60 countries by February 2020. 

Previous media reports said Samsung was ramping up plans to sell 6 million foldable devices next year.

Samsung to launch Galaxy Fold in 60 countries by February 2020, sell 500,000 units

Samsung Electronics plans to launch the Galaxy Fold in more countries, including Brazil, New Zealand and Chile, Yonhap news agency reports, citing unnamed industry sources. According to these sources, Samsung seeks to launch the device in 30 new countries by February 2020. The Galaxy Fold is currently available in 29 countries, including South Korea, the US, Japan and France. Galaxy Fold shipments are expected to reach 500,000 by early next year, the sources added.

Samsung completes Galaxy Fold fix, to launch in September

Samsung announced that it has fixed the technical problems with its Galaxy Fold smartphone and the device will go on sale in selected markets in September. Unveiled in February at MWC, the foldable smartphone's launch was canceled in April after a number of review models showed problems.
