Samsung completes Galaxy Fold fix, to launch in September

Samsung announced that it has fixed the technical problems with its Galaxy Fold smartphone and the device will go on sale in selected markets in September. Unveiled in February at MWC, the foldable smartphone's launch was canceled in April after a number of review models showed problems.

Samsung said it reviewed the product design and made a number of changes. These include extending the top protective layer of the Infinity Flex Display beyond the bezel, so customers do not try to remove it; additional reinforcements to better protect the device from external particles; strengthening the top and bottom of the hinge area with newly added protection caps; additional metal layers underneath the display to reinforce protection of the display; and reducing the space between the hinge and body of the Galaxy Fold.

In addition, Samsung said it worked on the user interface, including optimizing more apps and services for the foldable design.

It's now conducting the final tests to prepare the phone for launch from September in select markets. Availability details will be disclosed closer to the launch.
