Samsung Electronics unveiled in London its new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S III. The Android 4.0 phone features a 4.8-inch Super Amoled screen with 1280x720 resolution, 8 megapixel back camera and 1.9 megapixel front camera, 2,100 MaH battery and a range of connectivity options, including Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and LTE in select markets. It will launch initially in blue and white versions in Europe in late May, before rolling out in other colours and other parts of the world.
The smartphone comes with innovations in face and voice recognition. With the 'Smart stay' feature, the phone recognizes what features are being used, such as reading an e-book or browsing the web, by having the front camera identify the user's eyes; the phone then maintains a bright display to support content viewing.
The 'S Voice' feature offers voice commands, such as information search and device control, as well as commands for the alarm, music player, texts and e-mail, agenda and camera.
The Galaxy S III also introduces gesture recognition. For example, while messaging, if the user decides to call the contact instead, they can lift the phone to their ear and it will dial the number instead. If the phone is idle for a while, it will also vibrate when picked up if any new messages have been received.
For sharing content, the S Beam feature allows wireless transfers between Galaxy S III phones simply by touching the devices together, while AllShare Cast supports wireless transfers to a TV, and AllShare Play allows streaming files to a tablet, PC or TV. The Group Cast function also allows sharing the screen among multiple friends on the same Wi-Fi network.
