Samsung hits 1.3 mln Galaxy Note 10 pre-orders in South Korea
Samsung Electronics has announced that pre-orders for its Galaxy Note 10 smartphone have topped 1 million units in South Korea, Yonhap news agency reports. Domestic operators SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus started taking pre-orders for the device on 9 August. The smartphone will officially hit the local market on 23 August. Samsung reached 1.3 million Galaxy Note 10 pre-orders, which represents a 2-fold increase from the total number of pre-orders received for the Galaxy Note 9 on the local market. 

Customers can acquire the Note 10 for KRW 1.2 million (approximately USD 1,025) for the version with a 6.3-inch display and KRW 1.5 million for the 6.8-inch screen Note 10.

SK Telecom passes 1 million 5G subscribers milestone

South Korean operator SK Telecom announced it has passed the milestone of 1 million 5G subscribers in the first 140 days since the launch of its 5G network on 3 April. The company's 5G subscribers account for more than 3.5 percent of SK Telecom's total subscriber base of 28 million.

South Korean mobile operators SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus have introduced an upgraded text messaging service available on Samsung smartphones. The platform is called 'Chatting+' and is based on Rich Communication Services (RCS). LG Electronics plans to launch RCS-compatible devices later this year to join the platform, the three mobile operators said. SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus plan to initially offer the service free of charge, with no data deduction.

South Korea tops 2 million 5G subscribers in first four months

South Korea has reached the milestone of 2 million 5G subscribers in four months after the service was commercially launched on the local market, Yonhap news agency reports, citing industry data. The country's three mobile operators SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus commercially launched fully-fledged 5G mobile networks on 3 April. The number of South Koreans with subscriptions to a 5G service stood at 260,000 at the beginning of May, to reach 1 million in mid-June.

Samsung Electronics reports it has received 720,000 preorders for its Galaxy S8 smartphone in South Korea in the first 7 days since the device was launched on the local market, Yonhap news agency reports, citing Koh Dong-jin, president of Samsung's mobile communications business. "Initial market response [for the Galaxy S8] is better than expected", the company representative said. Samsung launched local preorders on 7 April. The official release is scheduled for 21 April.
