Samsung sees 720,000 Galaxy S8 preorders in Korea in 7 days
Samsung Electronics reports it has received 720,000 preorders for its Galaxy S8 smartphone in South Korea in the first seven days since the device was launched on the local market, Yonhap news agency reports, citing Koh Dong-jin, president of Samsung's mobile communications business. 

"Initial market response [for the Galaxy S8] is better than expected" in Korea and the US, and better than the previous Galaxy S7, the company representative said. Samsung launched pre-orders on 7 April. The official release is scheduled for 21 April.

Samsung Electronics reports that global sales of its Galaxy S8 smartphones reached 5 million units in less than a month after the device was officially launched, Yonhap news agency reports. KT upgrades LTE network to save phone batteries

South Korean operator KT reports it has deployed a new technology on its LTE network that allows smartphone users to save battery life, Yonhap news agency reports. According to KT, its research showed the upgrade extended the battery life of Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphones by 3 to 4 hours, although this may vary on the number of installed apps. KT says the technology centers on turning smartphones' network programs to the battery-saving mode periodically.

Samsung Electronics has announced it will sell its Galaxy S8 Plus smartphone with 6GB RAM for KRW 1.15 million (approximately USD 1,018) in South Korea.
