Samsung sells 5 mln Galaxy S8 smartphones worldwide

Samsung Electronics reports that global sales of its Galaxy S8 smartphones reached 5 million units in less than a month after the device was officially launched, Yonhap news agency reports. "Although we cannot provide a detailed figure, the sales are going smoothly around the globe", said an unnamed Samsung representative. "The combined sales already are beyond 5 million units", the company representative added.

Samsung introduced its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus smartphones in South Korea, the US and Canada on April 21. The device is now also available in most European countries. Samsung plans to make its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus smartphones available in 120 countries, including China, by end-May.

According to industry sources, Samsung is expected to sell 20 million Galaxy S8 units by the end of the second quarter. Annual sales are estimated to range between 50 million and 60 million units.
