Samsung to install Microsoft services on Android devices

Microsoft and Samsung Electronics have expanded their global partnership to bring Microsoft mobile productivity services to more consumers and business customers. Samsung is planning to pre-install Microsoft services and apps on its portfolio of Android devices and will deliver secured mobile productivity for businesses through new Microsoft 365 and Samsung Knox Business Pack. 

For consumers, pre-installed services include OneNote, OneDrive and Skype on the new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge devices and plans to pre-install Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, OneDrive and Skype on select Samsung Android tablets in the first half of the year. The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge also come with 100 GB of additional free cloud stage for two years through Microsoft OneDrive. 

Businesses that purchase devices through Samsung's business-to-business sales channels will have access to three versions of Office 365, Business, Business Premium and Enterprise, coupled with Sammsung's Knox security service. The bundle also includes a setup service from Samsung. 

Microsoft also announced similar agreements with other device manufacturers to install its software on Android devices. These include TrekStor of Germany, JP Sa Couto of Portugal, Datamatic of Italy, DEXP of Russia, Hipstreet of Canada, QMobile of Pakistan, Tecno of Africa, and Casper of Turkey, as well as the manufacturers Dell and Pegatron. These 11 hardware partners will pre-install Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, OneDrive and Skype on Android devices coming to market later this year.
