Samsung to release Galaxy S5 on 27 March - report
Samsung Electronics will bring forward the release of its Galaxy S5 in South Korea. The company now plans to release the phone on 27 March instead of 11 April so the launch does not coincide with the business suspension of SK Telecom, the Korea Herald writes citing unnamed sources close to the matter. Korea's operators have been slapped with business suspensions over excessive subsidies and SK Telecom's suspension is due to start on 5 April. Bringing the release date forward in Korea may affect the global release date, a source said.

SK Telecom to offer compensation for outage

Korean communications provider SK Telecom will compensate the customers who were affected by a six-hour network outage on 20 March. The network breakdown was caused by a failure of SK Telecom's Home Location Registration (HLR) system and affected around 5.6 million customers in Seoul and nearby areas. Operators team up to curb illegal subsidies

Three South Korean mobile operators SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus, will establish a joint team to curb excessive subsidies which have earned the companies the ire of the government, Yonhap reports. The three companies have been slapped with fines and business suspensions for subsidies above the legal limit to attract new customers. The three companies admitted they had distorted the market through their actions and said they will establish a joint surveillance team to combat the problem.

The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) has ordered further penalties for SK Telecom and LG Uplus for illegal subsidies to switching customers. The two companies, as well as KT, were recently slapped with a 45-day business suspension by the ICT ministry for the same reason.
