SFR could merge with Numericable, sell to Vodafone - report
French media reported on October 14 that Vivendi is in highly preliminary talks with cable operator Numericable to merge its mobile unit SFR. The plan being discussed would see Vivendi taking a 49 percent stake in the merged operator and up to EUR 5 billion in cash, according to weekly Journal du Dimanche. The paper added that another option on the table is that SFR would be sold to Vodafone. Vivendi bought Vodafone's 44 percent share of SFR for over EUR 7.7 billion in June last year. For its part, daily Le Figaro says Vivendi would have 35 percent of the merged company and get EUR 8 billion in cash. So far there have been no comments by any of the companies involved.
