SFR to cut over a third of workforce in 2017 – report
SFR plans drastic cuts to its workforce from the start of July 2017, reports Le Monde quoting union representatives, with over 5,000 employees out of the current 14,300 at risk. Parent company Altice had pledged to keep SFR's headcount unchanged for three years when it negotiated the acquisition of the operator in mid-2014. SFR, which has not commented on the plans, is in the process of reducing the number of staff working in its retail operations, in a reorganisation expected to be completed by November.

Stock market regulator blocks Altice buyout offer for SFR

French stock market regulator AMF (Autorite des Marches Financiers) has ruled against Altice's public exchange offer for its subsidiary SFR Group, which was announced in early September. The ruling states that the AMF found the transaction non-compliant, although the motivations behind the decision have not yet been published. In a statement, Altice acknowledged the ruling, stating that it reserves the right to file an appeal against the decision with the Paris Court of Appeal.

CGT calls strike at SFR

The union CGT has called for employees of French operator SFR to strike on 06 September in protest at the planned job cuts at the company. It called on employees to gather at the company's headquarters outside Paris, as well as in other major cities in France. The union wants SFR to stop the redundancies, start hiring more where needed and harmonise employee rights across the group.

Two of the main trade unions representing SFR's workforce reached an agreement with the company on a major restructuring plan involving approximately 5,000 jobs, out of the current 14,300, reports Le Monde. SFR extends LTE coverage in French department of Oise

French operator SFR announced it s has widened its LTE coverage to reach an additional 42 municipalities in the northern region of Oise, bringing the total to 148. According to national regulator Arcep, SFR has extended its LTE footprint to 1,256 new sites across France during the second quarter.

SFR to introduce new Box by September

French operator SFR is informing customers of plans to introduce an upgraded Box, set to become available to customers by September, AlloForfait reported. The news mainly concerns ADSL customers with the (old) Neufbox Evolution NB6, and some FTTB (coax cable) subscribers. SFR said it will waive the EUR 49 charge for the upgraded Box until 1 February for customers renewing their deal with the operator for 12 months.

SFR customer services automation threatens 3K jobs - report

The increasing automation of customer services by SFR could lead to the loss of around 3,000 call centre jobs at the French company's outsourcing partners, Les Echos reported. Arvato, a division of Germany's Bertelsmann, is the most affected by the move and last week lodged a complaint at the commercial court, claiming SFR halted their contract with insufficient notice, the paper said, citing an unnamed Arvato source.
