Canadian cable operator Shaw Communications has launched a new service called Shaw Mobile, adding to its existing Freedom Mobile offering. Aimed at its fixed broadband customers, the new service offers free calls and texts and a choice of a pay-by-the-gig or unlimited data. It includes nationwide cellular coverage as well as access to Shaw's thousands of Wi-Fi hotspots.
The basic service of unlimited calls and texts is free for up to six lines per household using Shaw fixed internet services. Customers can pay CAD 10 per GB, with data rollover for 90 days, or get the Unlimited plan with 25 GB at top LTE speeds for CAD 45 per month. Shaw said the price is up to 40 percent less than equivalent offers on the market. After using up the data, customers can buy additional gigabytes or surf at reduced speeds.
Shaw Mobile will feature handsets from Apple, Samsung, Google, LG and Motorola, and customers can also bring their own device. The service will be offered at 19 Shaw retail outlets in Alberta and B.C., including 12 new shops opening under a new format at the end of summer. Another 120 partner sites also will carry the service.
The launch of Shaw Mobile is accompanied by a new ad campaign with the tagline 'Brighter Together', promoting also Shaw's Fibre+ home service and new visual identity. Shaw’s new creative was produced in collaboration with the agency Rethink.
