SK Telecom, Starbucks develop AI-based order service
South Korean operator SK Telecom has teamed up with Starbucks Korea to enable Starbucks customers using SK’s Nugu artificial intelligence (AI) device to order drinks via voice, Yonhap news agency reports. SK Telecom plans to connect the Nugu AI platform to Starbuck's order application, allowing users to order and make payments. SK Telecom and Starbucks plan to complete the service development by year-end.

Launched in September 2016, Nugu is designed to provide household-related services. Earlier this month, SK Telecom released a portable edition of Nugu. Using AI technology, Nugu provides music streaming, IoT services, schedule management and weather alerts.

SK Telecom also plans to connect Nugu to its driving-navigation platform T-map, to enable drivers to order drinks and locate the nearest drive-thru Starbucks shop. Following the completion of the service development, drivers will be able to order drinks without tapping their smartphones.
