Four mobile operators paid a total of EUR 164.2 million to acquire frequencies in the auction held by Slovenia’s Agency for Communications Networks and Services (Akos). Telekom Slovenije paid the most, at EUR 52.1 million, followed by Telemach (EUR 51.6 million), A1 Slovenija (EUR 42.4 million) and T-2 (EUR 18.2 million).
The auction offered frequencies in the 1500 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 3600 MHz and 26 GHz band for a period of 15 years. Part of the 700 MHz, 3600 MHz and 26 GHz frequency bands is intended for the introduction of 5G mobile networks.
The regulator is expected to issue decisions on the allocation of frequencies in early June, thus completing the process. Frequencies in the 700 MHz, 700 MHz, 1500 MHz, 3600 MHz and 26 GHz bands will be available immediately, and those in the 2100 MHz band will be available for use from 22 September and frequencies in the 2300 MHz band from 1 January 2022. All the licences are technology neutral and valid for 15 years.
