Smart launches LTE-Advanced network in Philippines
Philippines mobile operator Smart Communications has announced that 5G wireless technology, known as LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) is now running in its network. Smart switched on LTE-A at the Smart Jump Center in Mandaluyong City. Smart started testing LTE-A services across the country in August 2013, delivering speeds of over 100 Mbps in Makati City, in Boracay, and in Davao City during the Kadayawan festival.

SingTel launches LTE-A for smartphones

Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel), in partnership with Samsung and Ericsson, hasunveiled a commercial 300Mbps LTE-Advanced service for smartphones. The service will be available from 23 August when SingTel launches the Samsung Galaxy S5 4G+, a handset compatible with 4G LTE-Advanced networks. Another compatible smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha 4G+, will be available from SingTel in September.

Smart conducts LTE-Advanced test on Boracay Island

Philippine mobile operator Smart Communications has ramped up network trials for LTE-Advanced with a recent field test on Boracay Island, Aklan. The test was held during the Geeks on a Beach start-up conference and recorded download speeds of 203.23 Mbps. In an earlier trial in Davao City Smart recorded speeds of 210.58 Mbps and in a Makai City trial the operator saw consistent speeds of 209.66 Mbps.

Philippine mobile services provider Smart Communications has held further LTE-Advanced services in metro Manila and Davao. At trials held first in Makati City in cooperation with network equipment provider Huawei, Smart achieved speeds of up to 209.66 Mbps.
