Softbank grows H1 profit 77% on acquisitions

Japanese communications provider Softbank posted a net income of JPY 394.92 million for the first half ended 30 September. Net income rose by 76.8 percent from JPY 242.53 billion a year earlier. The mobile segment also recorded a 27.4 percent year-on-year increase in net sales to JPY 1.39 trillion, helped by the consolidation of eAccess from January, GungHo Online Entertainment from April and Willcom from July, as well as increases in the number of subscribers and units sold at SoftBank Mobile.

During the period, Softbank gained 1.59 million new mobile subscribers, bringing its total to 4.07 million. Fixed-line sales totaled JPY 270.37 billion, up 3.2 percent year-on-year on eAccess consolidation, and internet sales grew 20.4 percent to JPY 196.29 billion.
